The purpose of the All Academic Teams and San Diego Section Scholars is to honor students who excel not only athletically, but academically as well. The programs recognize some of the very brightest students in San Diego, Imperial, and Riverside Counties.
All Academic Teams honor the teams in each varsity sport that compile the highest, combined unweighted grade point average in their region of the CIF San Diego Section. The eight conferences of the San Diego Section are City, Coastal, Frontier, Grossmont, Metropolitan, North County, Southeastern, and Southern.
In each of the above conferences, the section will be selecting 1 varsity team, in each sport, from each of the eight conferences with the highest team GPA. The highest team GPA will be recognized as the All Academic Team.
San Diego Section Scholars are the Captain (junior or senior) on each All Academic Team with the highest cumulative, weighted GPA. A Scholar Athlete "Captain" patch shall be awarded to that Captain. To be considered for All Academic Team honors a team must have enough eligible athletes on its roster to compete in a sanctioned league or championship competition.

Each member of every All Academic Team has the option to print out a personalized certificate from the CIF San Diego Section website. And each San Diego Section Scholar also has an option to print out an additional certificate from the CIF website (below).
